Michael joins our team from Cape Town, South Africa where he was ranked #1 in every age group in South Africa as he grew up. At the age of thirteen, Michael was named to the South African Junior Davis Cup Team where he led the team to two top 10 finishes at the Junior World Cups (2004 in Czech Republic and 2005 in Spain) and two African Cup Championships (2004 in Egypt and 2006 in Mauritius). At the age of sixteen, Michael changed nationalities to Great Britain and represented them in The European Championships that year. Based in Boston, MA and London, England over the next two years, Michael competed in ITF tournaments throughout the world. In 2008, he competed in the Wimbledon, French Open and the US Open Junior Grand Slam Tournaments reaching a career high junior world ranking of # 55. During his junior career, he had wins over the likes of Grigor Dimitrov, Dan Evans, Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospisol.
In 2009, Michael attended The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he was a four-year starter in both singles and doubles. Michael played an integral role in leading Alabama to their best season in school history, #9 in the country.
Michael has built one of the strongest junior programs in the United States at the Five Season Sports Club in Chicago, developing multiple national champions, many that went on to play for several power 5 Division 1 University tennis programs.
