Over One Hundred Years of Charm and Elegance

History and Tradition

The Orange Lawn Tennis Club was founded in 1880, just six years after the game of lawn tennis was introduced to the United States. In May 1881, Orange Lawn Tennis Club and eighteen other Clubs formed the United States Lawn Tennis Association to standardize the game's rules and equipment.

Founding members of Orange Lawn Tennis Club included Richard Sears, the first US Singles Champion, and James Dwight, the USLTA's first president. The national Championships began in 1886 at Orange Lawn Tennis Club. The Club later hosted the Grass Court Championships, which was the major tournament preceding the US Open while it was still being played on grass courts.

Continuing in time-honored tradition, Orange Lawn Tennis Club maintains - exclusively for its members - ten of the finest grass courts in the country.

Facility

The sixteen acres of manicured property feature a clubhouse built in 1848, ten grass and ten Har-Tru tennis courts (two lighted for evening play), an upscale locker house and pro shop, swimming pool with snack bar, five platform tennis courts and a lawn bowling court.
